Aviation CO₂ in the national greenhouse gas inventory

Official inventory reported to the UN climate convention (UNFCCC), same IPCC rules for every country: domestic aviation (1.A.3.a) counts in the national total; international aviation (bunker fuel sold for outbound international flights) is a memo item outside it.

In 2024, domestic aviation in France emitted 4,270 thousand tonnes of CO₂, and fuel sold for international flights another 18,256 thousand tonnes, according to the national inventory submitted to the UNFCCC.

Emitted inside this country's airspace, overflights included

In December 2024, aircraft emitted 15,297 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) inside the airspace of France, including flights that only crossed it; 131 tonnes of that came from taxiing on the ground, according to EUROCONTROL's Advanced Emissions Model.
